There’s a chill in the air, the beaches are much less crowded, and the leaves are getting crisp and colorful. That can only mean one thing here in New England. It’s time to throw on a scarf, order up a pumpkin spice latte and celebrate the season at one of our many local farms. Sure, you can get your pumpkins at the grocery store, but we all know that picking them yourself is half the fun. From pumpkin patches to apple orchards, from hayrides to corn mazes and some cider and donuts to top it all off, we’ve got your fall 2020 bucket list right here! Below are our picks for getting outdoors and enjoying some fall fun in our area.
Manfredi Farms
Dubbed “The Corn Place,” this Westerly institution sells a lot more than just corn. Their quaint country market sells a wide array of farm-fresh produce and visitors can also pick their own pumpkins, take a hayride, or explore the corn maze. It’s a great spot to bring the kids, who will enjoy their petting zoo featuring goats, donkeys, chickens, and ducks. Treats for feeding the animals are available for purchase inside the market, as well as plenty of goodies for the humans as well!
Best known for their maple syrup, this place kicks off the fall season by holding an annual Farm Festival every September. From then until October 31, the farm features pick your own pumpkins, fresh-pressed apple cider, maple syrup, and a corn maze available seven days a week. You can also stock up on authentic seasonal décor including gourds, hay bales, and corn stalks while there.
This family-run farm stand has been around for more than 100 years. Come fall, visitors can pick their own pumpkins and apples, and there are plenty of Insta-worthy photo ops all around the farm. Be sure to snap a pic of their 1850-pound pumpkin or hop aboard one of their tractors for the quintessential farm backdrop.
There’s plenty of fun to be had at this farm, including workshops on building scarecrows and making pretty pumpkin centerpieces. Take a tractor ride around the farm, pick your own pumpkins, load up on mums for your garden, and then grab a pie or other tasty treat from their store on the way out.
Home to the oldest steam-powered cider mill in the United States, B.F. Clyde’s is a national historic landmark right here in our backyard. A visit here will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth, as you sip on what some call, “the best sweet cider on Earth” and feast on homemade pies, muffins, apple cider donuts, and much more. On the weekends there are free wine and cider making demos throughout the day, and you can head down below to the cellar to sample their assortment of hard ciders too. You can take home a souvenir for the grownups in the form of a branded refillable growler, and a gallon of the sweet stuff for the kids.
