Leading up to Earth Day, learn from backyard nursery professionals, Howland and Linda Green in W. Kingston, RI how you can help reduce carbon emissions by planting certain varieties of locally grown trees. This husband & wife team will explain how certain evergreens can impact your landscape as well as the overall ecology of your neighborhood. You’ll also hear about best planting practices for the successful growth of new trees.

Howland and Linda are proprietors of Greenwood Growers. Their backyard nursery specializes in deer resistant evergreens, primarily western red cedar, commonly known as arborvitae, cryptomeria (Japanese cypress) and also hydrangea, all grown from cuttings they have taken from their own or friends’ trees. After 8 years of growing, 2020 was their first year of sales. Howland is a 45+ veteran of the nursery industry, having owned several successful wholesale/retail nurseries and a landscape design/build business. Before retirement Linda ran the award-winning URI Watershed Watch citizen science program for 30+ years.
