My romantic weekend getaway is Ocean House in the off-season, and it has now officially become a yearly winter tradition. It is simple and flirty where high class meets beach-girl. The bustling bar, cozy fireplaces, and cello player brings an ambiance of quaint, class, and sophistication. The hotel feels like a home for locals and all couples on retreat from the daily hustle.
A walk through the lobby brings ocean views on all sides. The pianist and the cello greet the diners, and the lovers start the dancing. Reality is put to the side with fine wines, local delicatessens, decadent desserts, and quick sipping espresso martinis. Dinner reservation, a massage, and facial at Oh Spa, and a “cherry-on-the-top” ending with the Sunday Jazz Brunch.
We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite. The large windows overlooked the Atlantic, with two terraces to bring a Sherpa blanket and glass of wine at night, or a cup of coffee and a book in the morning. The simple sound of waves crashing, the awaking from natural sunlight rising, the freshness of salt air blowing, and the show of a simple seal swimming brings an unexpected peaceful feeling of having it all. The sea smoke raises from the glistening ocean waves, as locals run their dogs on the vacant white sandy beach.
Our stay mixed sporty with sweet. We bundled up with a hot coffee liquor in a to-go-cup, laughing and learning the rules of shuffleboard. We attempted the squash courts and waded in the heated pool. We romanticized our early morning with a slow walk on the cold vacant beach, with gorgeous sun gleaming off the rough crashing waves. The beach felt private, like our own, minus the off-roading jeeps taking advantage of the same private setting.
My husband I took advantage of the full-service amenities at Oh Spa. The massages, facials, and body works options promised; nourishing, restoring, and revitalizing. We were not disappointed as we were pampered with robes, towels, and sandals for our couples massage. The steam room and overall quiet and nourishing atmosphere embraced holistic healing and detoxifying rejuvenation.
Our first dinner reservation was to experience the lavish retreat in the iconic Gondola Village. This brought luxury with private dining to a whole new level. The experience is filled with a 4-course dining experience accompanied by bubbling Veuve Clicquot champagne. Each couple or party of 4 gets their own private cozy gondola, with the offerings of unique fine wines and sophisticated menus by a private fire pit setting. The secluded setting feels like Aspen with heated blankets, the smell of a childhood pine ski cabin, and romantic conversation. We opted for the bottle of cabernet and slow moving meals. The doors would close for intimate conversation and a comfy hideaway for dreamers and lovers.
Our next night brought us to The Bistro. This bar and lounge was filled with a roaring fireplace, loud laughter, and well-dressed people watching. We embraced the atmosphere of colorful martinis, signature cocktails, and happy laughter of old friends reuniting and locals getting away. The Raw Bar had the Oysters, the Starters had the Fettuccini Bolognese and Grilled Octopus, and the Signature Favorites had everything seared, braised, roasted, and grilled. This date night lively atmosphere brought on the Espresso Martini and delicatessen desserts. A night to remember and a night to dress up for The Bistro brought lovers, girls nights, and professional happy hours to a whole new level.
