Restaurant Week Day 5: Mia’s

For our 5th and final day we decided to continue through downtown Westerly-Pawcatuck and hit Mia’s Cafe for lunch. I drive past Mia’s all the time and have been wanting to try it and this was the perfect opportunity.

Featured on the menu:
Course 1:
Cup of chili
House Salad
BBQ Pork Egg Rolls
Mozzarella Wedges
Course 2:
Goat Cheese Salad
Bacon Blue Cheese Burger
Chicken Sliders
Fried Fish Sandwich
Course 3: (To- Go)
Cookie
Brownie

For the first course I was going to go for the mozzarella wedges at first, but they had to do a menu change and Mia’s added BBQ pork egg rolls to the menu. Since this wasn’t an item originally on the menu I decided to seize my opportunity and try this dish. So it is exactly like it sounds and is BBQ Pulled pork in an egg roll and it is served with a spicy mayo. This was a very enjoyable dish. While it may not look like a lot it was also actually very filling. This would make a great appetizer for a small party.
For the second course I chose the goat cheese salad. Since it was lunch I wanted to try and keep it somewhat light. This salad was huge. I could’ve just had this for lunch and not had the egg rolls and still been full. This salad is topped with two large balls of goat cheese that have been fried in panko crumbles. I honestly did not know what to expect when it came to the goat cheese and this was definitely interesting. I will admit I wasn’t sure how I should eat this. Do I eat it on its own, or do I break it up and eat it with the salad? So I ended up doing a little bit of both. In additional to the goat cheese it has mixed fields greens, dried cranberries, apples, and walnuts. It is then dressed with their house made balsamic vinaigrette. I would definitely recommend getting extra dressing on the side because this salad is so large. The dessert options were both a to-go option and I chose the brownie. I am a sucker for a brownie. This brownie tasted delicious! It was 1000% made from scratch. It tasted like something that would come out of my grandmas oven!

Mia’s is a cute local restaurant to try and I am glad I got to experience it during restaurant week. Think this will definitely be a place I go to for a quick bite during lunch. Be warned since it is only open during lunch and breakfast most days. They do get a little packed.
