Restaurant Week Day 1: Cooked Goose

For day 1 we wanted to hit a spot that is well known around Westerly and Watch Hill. This restaurant is also featured on our Top 10 Restaurants page, Best Breakfast page, and Best Sandwich page so we had to see what they had on the restaurant week menu.

Featured on the menu:
Course 1:
Choice of the soup of the day
Course 2:
The Oscar- Filet Mignon sandwich with herbed Boursin, red onion, avocado & horseradish mayo on a Brioche Roll
The Lynch- Tuna salad with lettuce, tomato, and cheddar on a rustic whole wheat bread
Capt. Kirk- Basil & cashew salad with avocado, lettuce, tomato, and sprouts in a spinach wrap
C.M.R- Smoked turkey, brie cheese, cranberry mayo, arugula & red onion on a croissant
Chopped Salad- Grilled chicken, apples, grapes, almonds, cucumbers, romaine & poppy seed dressing
Lunch special of the day
Course 3:
Apple Crisp with Ice Cream

So to start I decided on the Clam chowder for the soup of the day. We are in New England so when you are offered clam chowder you must try it. While I am not a clam chowder connoisseur I really enjoyed this clam chowder. It had a creamy base with soft potatoes. They give you just the right amount so you aren’t too full to enjoy your next course. For course 2 I went with The Oscar sandwich. From the second I saw it on the menu it was calling my name. I’ve had steak sandwiches but never a filet mignon sandwich. I did not expect it to be a cold sandwich but I was happily surprised by it. The mixture of the steak with the herbed Boursin spread and the horseradish mayo was a complimentary combination. This entree was also served with potato chips but I was hardly able to eat them because the sandwich was so big and filling. I had to make the decision to only eat half of the sandwich so I would have enough room for the apple crisp. Which I am very glad I did because that apple crisp was so tasty. The apples tasted fresh, as did the crisp. It was served with a scoop of ice cream that melted perfectly into the crisp. It was the perfect amount so you didn’t feel overly full after such a big meal.

I highly recommend The Cooked Goose during restaurant week and anytime after. The menu was vast with not just other lunch options but breakfast as well. I’m very interested in how their breakfast is after trying this delicious lunch. I might even come back again this week and try another entree!
