Restaurant Week Day 3: Venice Restaurant

For Day 3 we decided to hit the beach and go to Venice Restaurant. What makes Venice so interesting is that it isn’t in the normal restaurant areas of Westerly, and even though it is close to the beach it is still open all year round. So we wanted to mix it up and hit the beach. Just a warning if you plan on dining here for restaurant week it is best to make a reservation. We learned this the hard way at Venice as well as Ella’s.

Featured on the menu:
Course 1:
French Onion Soup
Caesar Salad
House Salad
Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms
Course 2:
Lazy Man Lobster Scampi
Stuffed Lobster Fisherman Style
Grilled Flat Iron Steak
Grilled Chicken al Forno
Course 3:
Cannoli
Chocolate Cake
Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée

To start, Venice provides you with a basket of bread. Thankfully they only give you three pieces because it is delicious. It is served with herb garlic butter and it is divine. I had to control myself and not ask for another basket. The first course was a tough choice once again. The stuffed mushrooms sounded very interesting but I didn’t want to get too full, especially since I just ate bread as well. I decided to go for the French Onion soup. It is the perfect portion of soup and it is very tasty. One thing I love about french onion soup is the cheese on top and that did not disappoint. I will say that this soup isn’t as brothy as I would like but that is just a personal preference.
For the second course I thought it was going to be an easy choice on the flat iron steak. As I have mentioned in other posts I’m a sucker for steak. However, the grilled chicken al forno also looked really good. It is penne pasta tossed in a tomato Alfredo sauce with spinach and finished with melted mozzarella cheese. But in the end we went with the flat iron steak. Steak is a dish is easy to make good but also easy to mess up, so it shows a lot about a kitchen. I just want to say that I am glad that I went with the steak. It was cooked perfectly, was juicy, tender, and did not require any steak sauce. The steak was served with carrots, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. Holy crap these mashed potatoes were so good. Best we have had this week hands down. They were creamy and flavorful. I could’ve eaten a whole bowl of those on my own and I am not even a big mashed potatoes person.
The third course had a lot of good choices. I’m usually a sucker for cannolis, but we were just in Boston and just ate my weight in Mike’s pastries, and I plan on having creme brûlée at another restaurant this week so we went with the chocolate cake. When I first saw the piece of cake I was like dang thats kind of a small piece, but there is a reason why they don’t serve you a huge piece because that cake is decadent, rich, and fudgy. I prefer a fudgier chocolate cake over a fluffier cake and this all the points. The icing was also thick and rich. It was not like your normal cake icing. It is served with a side of whipped cream and some raspberry syrup. The cake was delicious without the cream and raspberry but it was even better with the raspberry syrup and cream. Raspberry syrup and chocolate cake is one of my favorite combinations and this just hit the spot. The perfect ending to this wonderful dinner.

I highly recommend Venice during restaurant week and anytime after. Every course of the meal was enjoyable, and the service was impeccable. This is the perfect place if you want a fun date night, a casual dinner, or if you just want to watch the game at the bar. Even though it is on the beach it is still open all year round. Remember call for a reservation!
