What do you do when you find yourself with an extra hour to kill in Providence? If you are part of Westerly Food, you quickly map out a short food tour trying to hit up all the must eat at places you can get to within a sixty minute window. For us that meant heading over to Fox Point and getting in the fifteen or twenty minute line at PVDonuts. There is plenty of on street parking in that neighborhood and lots of other shops to visit while you are there. We eagerly stood in line and waited for our turn to enter the good sized bakery for our handmade that morning donut. We love that PVDonuts use as many local ingredients as possible and that the donuts are handmade each day. When you get to the case and see the amazing selection you will not be able to leave with one donut. The folks at PVDonuts will answer all of your questions and never rush you to make your selection. The customer service is outstanding! Despite the sometimes long lines they really take the time to make you feel like you are the only one in the shop.
Specializing in light and fluffy brioche donuts, the dough is made with more butter than sugar which, according to their web site, allows for the flavors of the incredible toppings to stand out and not compete against the traditionally sweet donut dough. While the facility is not nut or gluten free, they do offer a number of choices for people with eating sensitivities including flourless and vegan donuts. They also have cake and old fashioned donuts as well. We were so excited about the toppings that we left with six donuts. Six giant donuts. Six deliciously I can’t stop eating them donuts.
They accept cash, credit or debit for their handmade donuts. Expect to pay more than you would at a chain operated donut establishment- these amazing treats are one of a kind. No two are alike and they are, I’ll point out again, handmade each and every morning. That is 500-2,000 hand made donuts each and every day! Amazing. When they are gone they are gone- so get in line early and be prepared to never be able to go back to regular old donuts again.
PVDonuts is located at 79 Ives Street in Providence. They are open Wednesday-Sunday from 8-4. Just look for the big blue donut!
