We are so fortunate here in Westerly to have numerous choices in terms of where we want to eat out.  From casual to elegant, Westerly has us covered.

What about when you want elegant food in a casual atmosphere? Or a simple girls lunch out? What if you want to bring the kids? Looking for something that won’t break the bank? Weekapaug Inn offers all that and more.  While it might not be your regular stop, I’m here to tell you it could be.

I know, I know.  You never think about going to the Weekapaug Inn, do you? Certainly not for lunch.  Since it’s not in the center of town maybe it feels too far.  Is it even open off season? Also, am I really allowed to drive over that bridge? Are you sure I can bring my kids? Yes, yes and yes.

We stopped in for a girls lunch last Wednesday and were so glad we did.  Promptly greeted by Elizabeth, we were given our choice of seats.  We opted for the Garden Room which had a crackling fire and gorgeous view of the Quononchontaug Salt Pond.  There are game tables, couches, an intimate bar and cozy spots galore.  Elizabeth was so accommodating and offered to set us up by the fire or at a games table.  She also let us know that the restaurant is a quiet and comfortable space to enjoy an even greater view.

I know what you are wondering.  With all that gorgeousness how much is this going to cost? While you can spend a lot,  you don’t have to.  You can get an excellent lunch for under ten dollars. Prices range from eight dollars to twenty four.  One of us ordered the hearty New England style clam chowder ($8) and the other had the spinach salad ($18).  Both were plenty filling for lunch.  The salad, with goat cheese, pickled red onion, sunflower seeds and a grapefruit vinaigrette was truly delicious.  Layered so high, the vinaigrette kept this salad light and the creamy goat cheese was an excellent contrast to the crunchy seeds.  The house made hummus with grilled pita crisps ($14) was another favorite.  The hummus was lemony and the crisps were delicious.

The best part about lunch at the Weekapaug Inn was that you can take your time.  Linger.  Whether it is a special lunch date, a casual catch up with a friend or a moms lunch out, this place is a hidden gem. Locally sourced ingredients.  Gorgeous views.  Lovely staff.  Right in your backyard!

Finally, because it is the off season you don’t need a reservation at lunch.  So what are you waiting for? Seems like we should set up another girls lunch.  Who’s in?
