Another gray day outside and the sky doesn’t know if it wants to rain or snow…I’m hoping for rain…and so it seemed the perfect day for some comfort food. While pizza is not my idea of comfort food, mashed potatoes on pizza gets a little closer. Mashed potatoes in an amazingly cheesy calzone with gorgeous crust gets a lot closer. So close in fact that I didn’t even bother saving any for dinner or to share with anyone else.
You might be thinking Westerly does not need another pizza place, but this one offers up something a little different. Pizza Vita is located on Beach Street in Westerly. They are serving up some really interesting pizza combinations, all of which can be made into calzones. You can call ahead, place an order on line or just stop in if you don’t mind waiting.
This calzone was incredible. I don’t usually order calzones. However, the idea of mashed potatoes and cheese with sour cream on top was calling to me today. I’m so glad it did. I couldn’t tell where the mashed potato ended and the cheese began. It was oozing yumminess and the bacon made it just like eating a loaded baked potato. Seems like I might be giving calzones another chance.
