It’s been a tough winter. Not enough snow to sled. Not quite warm or dry enough to hike. It’s been kind of in between, which is probably the worst kind of winter. We’re all ready for spring but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be here anytime soon. In the meantime, might I recommend taking a trip just a few hours north so you can enjoy REAL winter? If you’re anything like us, you’re dying for some new, fun winter activities to do right now…just wait, I have some suggestions below.
GMC recently invited us up north to try out their 2019 Sierra Denali and AT4. We drove the AT4 most of the trip and got to experience a little bit of true winter. It was so fun and we loved the AT4, especially because we were able to drive off-road in the snow and feel totally safe.
Features like StabiliTrak, 4WD (two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential and skid plates), lane assist, forward collision alert, rear camera mirror, traction control, Off-road-tuned Rancho monotube shock absorbers, Hill Descent Control and the heads-up display allowed us to drive confidently and safely through all kinds of conditions, even on inches thick ice with several more inches of snow on top.
While on the trip, we saw firsthand, how comprehensive GMC’s all-new ProGrade Trailering System and the built-in trailering app are and how the system offers a connected suite of trailering technology that brings more confidence to the towing experience. Hint hint, this trailering system will come in handy when you try out a few of my recommended winter activities:
Ice fishing
So much fun and you’ll likely catch something, even if it’s tiny and you have to throw it back. It’s still so fun! As long as you do your research and find out what bodies of water are safe to ice fish on. Looks like striped bass, winter trout and cod might be on the menu tonight!
Snowmobiling
Now, this is one you might have to drive a few hours north to enjoy or maybe not. Find a good place to rent snowmobiles, hire a guide and follow the rules of the trails as you would in a car on the road! It’s easy to get the hang of and there’s nothing quite like going 35 mph in an open field of fresh snow – you’ll thank me later for this suggestion!
Cross Country Skiing or Snowshoeing
Even if there’s only a few inches of snow, cross country skiing or snowshoeing is so much fun! Plus it’s an amazing workout and a great way to stay warm while enjoying the outdoors. Find a bike path near you – they’re great for cross country skiing as they’re often fairly straight and flat. Even if the actual path isn’t groomed and is plowed, usually the area on either side of the path is great for cross country skiing or snowshoeing.
Winter Bonfires
This is a great way to enjoy the winter sky (or even watch the sunset or sunrise). Build a bonfire a safe distance from any buildings to stay warm as you star gaze, snuggle with loved ones to stay warm, make some s’mores and enjoy a new and fun activity.
